Galaxy S II ICS Rollout

Chris Velazco:

And with that, Galaxy S II owners began once again to feel the love. Or at least, most of them did. The update in question is meant for international spec Galaxy S II (the GT-I9100), so State-side owners of a AT&T/T-Mobile Galaxy S II or a Sprint Epic 4G Touch won’t be joining in the official fun just yet.

How do Android users put up with this? When I see the iOS keynote there's at least two or three features I'm really excited about. If I had to wait until an undetermined future time when my carrier and device manufacturer decided to let me have the upgrade and even then my device didn't quite yet qualify because there was some minimal difference in model number…

Wow. That was a long, run-on sentence - accurately reflecting the wait Android users must go through. I guess Androids have to learn not to care what's running on their phones.

Galaxy S Blaze 4G

Chris Velazco:

[W]hile a Galaxy S III this thing ain’t, one could certainly do worse than eye up a device with a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 processor, 3.97-inch Super AMOLED display, and support for T-Mobile’s 42Mbps HSPA+ network.

Setting aside the myriad of stupid names electronics device manufacturers churn out all the time, this is what's wrong with punditry. Specs. Punditry decides whether something is good or bad based solely on spec. There's no regard for fit, finish, or user experience. Apple's tight integration of hardware and software has lead devices with less 'spec' to outperform devices that pundits everywhere have decided are better.

The New Math

Matt Brian:

Samsung’s new Galaxy superphone is set to measure just 7mm, coming in almost 1.5mm thinner that its predecessor.

The Galaxy S II is not 8.5mm thick. It's 9.91mm thick. Daniel Ionescu:

[T]he Galaxy S II has bulges at the top (for camera lens) and bottom (speaker, antenna) of the phone. If the bulges are taken in consideration for the thickness, the Galaxy S II measures 9.91 mm, which is thicker than the iPhone 4 (9.3 mm)

By Samsung's measurement practices the MacBook Air is only 3mm thick. Crown, please!
